  1. SCRAMBLE FROM INGOLSTADT

  3. In April, 1945, as it became apparent
  4. that the war was drawing to a close,
  5. Allied Air Forces achieved virtual
  6. control of European airspace.  American
  7. P-51 Mustangs, with their incredible
  8. endurance, ranged over the majority
  9. of the Continent with increasing
  10. confidence and numbers. Also
  11. contributing to this freedom of
  12. mobility for American fighter pilots
  13. was the fact that the German war 
  14. machine was quickly screeching to a
  15. halt.  Fuel was becoming nonexistant,
  16. and experienced German fighter pilots
  17. were a rare breed.

  19. Had the Luftwaffe been able to build a
  20. quantity of Go 229s, they probably
  21. wouldn't have changed much about the
  22. outcome of the war.  However, with a
  23. top speed of 170 mph faster than the
  24. P-51D, and an operational ceiling
  25. 10,500 feet higher, the Luftwaffe's
  26. flying wing would have been, at the
  27. very least, a challenging target for
  28. the aces of the Mighty Eighth.

  32. As a flight of P-47s makes their attack
  33. run on your airfield, you and four
  34. other Go 229s are scrambling for air. 
  35. Get flying as quickly as possible, and
  36. fight the attackers off.  There will
  37. undoubtedly be more of them on the way.
